Movie/TV Cars part 1: The Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino

This Gran Torino cleaned up the streets of Bay City, California in the 70s TV show... Starsky & Hutch! Starsky’s iconic 3rd generation red and white Ford Gran Torino is one of television’s greatest cars. Nicknamed the “Striped Tomato” this Gran Torino had a 5.8 liter 351 Windsor V8 making 435hp! This thing can do 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds! I think the funniest thing about this car is that this car is supposed to be an undercover police car yet it has over 400 horsepower and it is bright red. In 1976 Ford made a special Starsky and Hutch edition Gran Torino. Only around 1,000 of these special edition Gran Torinos were ever made. Jim Cain a spokesman for Ford said he thought part of the car’s appeal was that the mid 70s was a drab period for car enthusiasts. “It was just a bland, colorless time, and the Torino painted red with a white stripe was pretty cool,” said Jim Cain. Unlike the Trans Am from Knight Rider, the Gran Torino can’t talk, it is simply a normal car. I really like Starsky’s Torino it is definitely a TV icon.
