The 1976 film: The Gumball Rally
Have you ever seen a split bumper Camaro drive on two wheels? If you would like to then you should watch the movie, The Gumball Rally. A racing comedy film with incredible sports cars and luxury cars in a nonstop race from New York to California while also trying to avoid the police. A film style from the 60s like the movie Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World and the car culture from the 70s. The car list includes a 1974 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona, a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427, a 1972 Camaro Z28, a 1974 Porsche 911 Targa, a 1969 Rolls-Royce, a 1968 Chevrolet C3 Corvette, a Chevyvan, a Kawasaki KH400, a 1971 Dodge Polara 440 police car, a Jaguar XK-E, and a 300SL. The motorcycle driver is a shout out to the silent film star, Charlie Chaplin. When the motorcycle rider appears on screen silent movie piano music plays, and he never talks. Also the actor, Harvey Jason looks a lot like Charlie Chaplin. This movie inspired all the other point A to point B racing movies like Need for Speed and Cannonball Run. In Gumball Rally all the actors did the driving themselves even all the high speed driving scenes. Gumbal Rally does not disappoint. I’m not going to spoil the whole movie, but I highly recommend you watch this movie.
“The winner of the contest will receive no glory and no headlines. Just a few magic hours flat out against the red line, with no catalytic converter and no 55 mile-an-hour speed limit.”
You can find this movie on: Amazon Video, Google play Movies, Microsoft Store, YouTube, or Direct TV. I think you may have to buy or rent for all of these, but I’m not positive.
^ here is a video of the cars leaving the garage!
“The first rule of Italian driving. What’s behind me is not important.”
Gumball Rally is really great for a low budget film.
What is your favorite car from the movie? Mine has to be the Ferrari Daytona.
